Coming soon to theaters…

Last fall, a series of events occured in my life that would fit more appropriately in a movie called “The Dress Address “.

I was walking in the Lower East Side, window shopping and feeling like a pauper, when I spotted this tiny storefront, its windows frothy with cream-colored tulle.  Small script on the door read Mary Adams, and I timidly walked in, to be greeted by some of the most gorgeous dresses I have ever seen in my life.

It actually looked like this!!

It actually looked like this!!

In the movie version of my life, a sweet old woman with a hip haircut would have offered me tea and complimented my sweater.  In reality, a cranky lady talked on the phone the entire time I was in the store and never greeted me.  But no matter!  I positively devoured the store, feeling all the soft and gorgeous fabrics, holding dresses up to myself and twirling, and just sighing with happiness.  I walked out a few minutes later, changed forever.

A few weeks later, I tried to take Kumail to the magical Mary Adams, only to find that it was completely boarded up and gone.   I was extra heartbroken, because not only did I not get to try and convince Kumail that we should spend our rent money on one of the dresses,  I also had forgotten the name of the store completely.  It was like it never existed.   I tried to forget all about it.

Months later, I’m in the elevator of my office in Manhattan, just thinking me thinks, when out of nowhere, the name Mary Adams pops into my head.   I run to my computer, google away, and found her.  She hadn’t shut down- just moved to Murray Hill!

I haven’t decided how the movie ends yet.  Either Kumail surprises me with one of the $2500 custom-made dresses, or I spend the whole movie pining for one and forgetting everything else, only to find that I didn’t ever really need it after all!

….but I am well aware of how lucky I am, and I think I’m pretty grateful for how wonderful my life is, soooooo I should just get the dress as a reward for all that, right?

Ill take this one, thank you very much.

I'll take this one, thank you very much. But subtly tailored to my style and personality.
