Some psychologists in the Netherlands decided to see if talking to pretty women actually made them stupid, or if it was just a myth.
Now this is research.
Basically, they recruited 40 hetero men and had them perform a standard memory test of looking at a stream of letters and saying whether or not each one was the same as the one that just passed. Simple.
Then they spent seven minutes (in heaven!) chatting to either a male or female member of the research team. And they got the female, she was hot.
Then they did the memory test again.
The men who talked to the hot girl were slower and less accurate the second time around. The more they fancied them, the worse their score.
So they repeated the study with 40 women, and of course, the women’s accuracy in the memory test was not affected by chatting with a hot guy.
They concluded that “men use up so much of their brain function or ‘cognitive resources’ trying to impress beautiful women, they have little left for other tasks…When a man meets a pretty woman, he is what we call ‘reproductively focused’. But a woman also looks for signs of other attributes, such as wealth, youth and kindness. Just the look of the man would be unlikely to have the same effect.”
We’re all such damn stereotypes, huh?
