Discoveries of a Has-Been
Between comedy shows at the FYF Fest Saturday, they had bands playing in what I considered *our* tent. I was quite territorial of said tent, so between our first and second shows, I wandered over to the tent to check on things. The band waiting to go on had been nibbling on some of the snacks we brought for comedians backstage, so I was already a little defensive.
Instead, I fell in love.
The nibbling band, also known as Purity Ring, was onstage performing their faces off, and they were absolutely amazing. Not only are their songs amazing, but they put on an amazing live show complete with a bizarre sculpture of metal pipes lit up with Christmas lights.
If you get a chance, go to their Tumblr to listen to them, as they only have one song available on Itunes.

The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, the weekly standup show that I run with Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani, had the pleasure of booking the comedy for the FYF Fest yesterday. It was a long and arduous task that resulted in three one hour shows in a huge tent at the festival.
When we saw the size of the tent and how tight the schedules were to be followed, we got a little nervous, but the shows went fantastically, everyone killed, and here is a pic that Steve Agee took of the crowd during the second or third show:
I’m amazed that we get to make a show that makes 150 people happy each week, so this blew my mind. Thanks to everyone who came out and laughed in the sweaty tent!
Before and After
Add 20 years….
Feeling old, but holy shit this song is still amazing. From The Daily What.
Most Noticeable.
This is me in my senior yearbook, where I was voted “Most Noticeable” by my classmates.
They made us pose on a rooftop and I have just given blood. I am wearing, in case you’re wondering, a fishnet shirt under a furry leopard print fest. Pretty noticeable.
Bagel and Wallace: The Saga Begins.
Bagel’s in the upper left hand corner, stalking, and Wallace is relaxing on the floor.
Middle school erotica.
When I was in middle school, I used to read a lot of suspense novels. Not Christopher Pike/RL Stine young adult suspense novels, but adult, I found this in the airport bookstore, nameless author suspense novels. The plots would usually be about things like “the occult debunker is jinxed into believing”, but the plots weren’t the point: these books had sex scenes.
This is a point that is often brought up, but back in my/our day, you couldn’t find porn everywhere. Back then, you had to improvise, watch cable late at night, borrow from your parents, and sometimes even read horror novels sprinkled with sex scenes. (That first sex scene in Stephen King’s “It”? Huge in my life.) So I did. And I thought to myself “these are just words in a certain order- why can’t I do that?”
So I did.
Gynomite’s Reading Room!
The genius that is Rob Delaney wrote an open letter to Katy Perry in regards to her song “Last Friday Night” for Vice. Best part? The pic of Rob dancing.
From Cracked, 10 mind-blowing Easter Eggs hidden in albums.
Not for the feint of heart- Shia LaBeouf’s video for Marilyn Manson’s Born Villain.
Michelle Collins at BWE, once again proving a point by making fun of said point- this time it’s about gender stereotyped clothing at JC Penneys.
Remember when Oscar de la Hoya had those pics surface of him in lingerie? Turns out they were real.
Ten things you should know about time.
And if you can handle it, here’s every time Britney Spears says either “baby” or “crazy” in her songs…. in order. From The Awl.
