Gynomite’s Reading Room!

It’s that time of year again! Once again, the mommies of the world come out to tell the world that they way they are living may not be perfect, but it’s best for them, setting off a firestorm of women going “NOT ME! YOU DON’T SPEAK FOR ME!” The latest offering is in NY Mag, and it’s about the new feminist housewife. Please don’t take what I’ve written as me dissing it- I think it makes great points and is lovely, I just don’t think that any mom can speak for all moms, and I know that’s how this is going to be taken. My favorite excerpt:

It is perhaps no wonder that in the world of mommy blogs, tattooed Fort Greeners and Mormons unknowingly collide, trafficking the same sites and trading recipes on the same message boards. They may vote different tickets, but on the centrality of home and family to a satisfying life, their interests are aligned.

The Onion NAILS why talking about how those Steubenville rapists’ lives have been ruined is so heinous. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, read these stories.

Also, I really loved Jezebel’s “In Defense of Hannah” from Girls. It’s true, Lena Dunham’s genius is making you relate to things you may not feel comfortable relating to.

Mama June, mother of Honey Boo Boo, could teach us all a thing or two about loving yourself.

Breaking news! Girls play video games! Hilarious!

And speaking of video games, there’s a new episode of Indoor Kids up today with Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe! He’s the coolest.
