This is just cool.

I know I’m having a real comedy-heavy day today here at Gynomite, but bear with me.  This is a super cool little piece of art that’s part of a series that is on the  Apiary every Friday.  I never really got any of them before, but this one…

1927

… is a reference to Kumail’s Cyclone bit (which he’ll be performing on Letterman this Friday!).  How cool is that?  Go here to see more of Billy Scafuri and Tim Bierbaum’s work.

I like to plug people who are already celebrities.

I usually don’t talk about stuff like this, but I’m too excited not to do it today….I got to hang out with Kumail on set last night!!!!

Kumail is writing for and acting in a Comedy Central show coming out this summer called Michael and Michael Have Issues, which is Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black’s new project.  The show is a sketch show but also has the behind-the-scenes of the sketch show, kinda like 30 Rock, but you also see the sketches.  Last night they were shooting some scenes of the Michaels performing at a college, so they brought in an audience and did a bunch of fun undermining each other on camera.

I got to hang out with the writers, producers, and the Michaels, and everyone was amazingly talented and fun and hard-working.  The scenes were hilarious, and the Michaels are both very funny and charming separately and a hoot when they play off of each other.  I can’t believe I just used the word hoot.

Wednesday, July 15th at 10:30PM on Comedy Central!  Watch it!

So proud.  I love this man.  Kumail on Kimmel last night.

(on a side note, Brooke Shields walked by me in the green room, and I literally swooned)

My mom sent this to me, and it’s funny. That’s all.

this guy's shoes are glued to the floor.

I’m going to be West Coasting it for the next couple of days, cheering on the love of my life as he does standup on Jimmy Kimmel Live this Thursday.  Be back soon, and hopefully you’ll get a full Gynomite dispatch from LA.  I don’t usually gush about celebrities I meet, but if I cross paths with Brooke Shields, lookout world .  Either way, it’ll be time to celebrate our birthdays when we return, so let’s do it up Saturday night!

Michael and Michael Have….a Website!

April 9, 2009 at 12:11 pm (Comedy, my life) (, , , , )

So as some of you know, Kumail has recently started writing for Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black’s new Comedy Central show, Michael and Michael Have Issues.

He's the DJ, I'm the rapper.

I would be stoked about this even if Kumail wasn’t writing for them.  The Michaels have a blog for their new show that just started yesterday and it’s hysterical.  Go to it for the funny, stay for the pictures of Showalter’s cats.

Shameless plugging!!

March 25, 2009 at 8:20 am (my life) (, , , , , )

I just wanted to show you two articles that the love of my life/Bageldaddy is featured in this week:

First, Gelf Magazine, who calls him “The Pakistani Prince of Comedy“, and then New York Magazine, who picked him and nine other comics to perform in front of each other and then discuss it.  Plus, they produced this cool shot of him.

As Gelf says, “It’s Kumail’s world, we just LOL in it.”

Totally stabbed the chimp

February 18, 2009 at 8:11 am (my life, silly thoughts) (, , )

This is a gchat conversation between Kumail and I this morning, in regards to the story about that chimp attack.  This woman that had been living with this chimp Travis for 14 years, and two days ago, Travis randomly attacked and mauled his owner’s friend for 12 minutes.  The owner was forced to stab Travis with a meat cleaver in an effort to stop him, and he was later killed by police.  I just think it’s interesting that though she lived with him for 14 years as a human (he drank wine, did chores, slept in a bed with the owner, etc), when he attacked, she chose human.
me: if you went nuts and started attacking someone’s face
i wouldn’t stab you
i would assume the other person fucked up
i am a little upset that this woman chose her friend over her chimp
who she spooned at night
Kumail: i am not a chimp
me: i agree
Kumail: so, yeah, dont stab me
Kumail: exactly
me: i’m just saying, she treated the chimp like a human in every other regard
but when it came to a fight
she stabbed the chimp
me: i’m always gonna choose you over my friend, even if you attack their face. she chose  humans
Kumail: is that the new jumping the shark?
Kumail: yes!
but for real life, like end of friendships
we were cool, and everything was good
me: but then she hit on my brother
totally stabbed the chimp
