Ask a Comedian
It’s time for the next installment of the amazingly popular series “Ask a Comedian” where I ask a few comedians I know the same random question. Today we have NYC mainstay alt comic Pete Holmes, who just taped his Comedy Central Presents and is a member of Front Page Films. Pete has been described as the Ferris Bueller of the comedy scene, in that everyone likes him and thinks he’s a righteous dude. That description was stated by me. The question (again):
There’s a doll being made of you- What tiny little accessories would it come with, and/or what would it say when you pull the string? (Yep, there’s a string.)

Jump for Pete’s answer!

Front Page Films, made up of the unstoppable trio of Oren Brimer, Matt McCarthy, and Pete Holmes, have created a 30 second ad for Doritos. And Doritos liked it so much that it’s 1 of 5 finalists in Doritos “Crash the Superbowl” Contest.

I never said I was great at using Paint.
So can you do me a favor? Can you go here, watch their video (and all the others, sure why not?), and then vote for New Flavor Pitch?
Immortalized.
So this is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while. MAD Magazine has a thing coming out in their next issue of 12 Surefire Tips for Stand Up Comics, and LOOK!!!!! (Thanks CC Insider!)
12 Word Reviews of Stand Up Comedy!
Today’s edition is the very last Scum and Villainy show at Piano’s, which took place on Sunday. Lots of great comics and fun weird moments. Let’s get into it!
Twelve-word reviews of stand up comedy!!!
It’s time once again for a comedy review, this time of the Comedy Free Williamsburg that took place Wednesday night at Soundfix. It’s an amazing venue, and with the recent closing of Rififi and weirding out of Creek and the Cave, might be the best place for stand up comedy on a consistent basis. Of course, the most famous thing about this show is that they offer an OPEN BAR from 7pm to 8pm, and they advertise that fact on a big huge board on Bedford Ave.
So, you’re going to get a crowd, but it may not be a comedy crowd. It will, however, be a drunken crowd, and drunken crowds can often turn into comedy crowds!
So let’s start the short reviews!
I thought I knew you!!!
So my good friend Pete Holmes made an ad for Klondike bars (with Matt McCarthy, Anya Garrett, and Oren Brimer, all lovely people as well) for this huge contest, and their video has been picked as one of the four finalists!!!
Watch the video here and then do the silly quick registering thing and VOTE VOTE VOTE! I want a piece of a lifetime supply of Klondike bars!! I don’t even know if that’s part of the grand prize, but I want it!
If you needed any motivation, Pete plays Al Pacino AND Ray Romano in the ad. Go watch.
A hodgepodge of things to look at
First, let’s start with this article in the New Yorker that someone told me about last week that I cannot get out of my head. It’s about a woman with a history of drug addiction and serious illness that developed a maddening scratch on a specific spot on the right side of her head, and she scratched it mercilessly, even in her sleep, until she woke up one morning with brain fluid pouring out of the hole in her skull!!! Fascinating story, and horrifying.
Two cool things I found today
Number one, courtesy of the badass site Towelroad
The amazingly awesome Karl Lagerfeld in an ad for French road safety.

If you don’t speak French, it says “It’s yellow, it’s ugly, it doesn’t match anything, but it can save your life.”
Awesome.
Number, two, and ok, so I didn’t find this on my own, but it’s my good friend Pete Holmes doing Ray Romano, which is an impression he will usually do on command. All. Night. Long.
Go check that one out, and others, at Front Page Films.
