Videos of Kumail’s Life
Kumail introduced me to one of his favorite songs and videos from his childhood far far away, and I kinda loved it, so without further ado, Dil Dil Pakistan (which means Heart Heart Pakistan) by a band called Vital Signs. Kumail is literally singing along with it right now.
It’s good to know that around the world, the 80s are pretty much universal.

And now, I would like to present the last video from The Cure in which Robert Smith is a viable sex object.

Yes, I loved this song, and yes, I loved this video, and yes, I bought this tape, and yes, I would play it when I had boys over in a sad attempt at being alluring.

Heads up to Eric Acosta for getting this song stuck in my head today.

My sister and I used to duet on this one, but I never got to play the bad one, because she was older and a better singer.
Shameless videos of my life
This song kept coming up on my Pandora, and damnit, I absolutely love it. I love the song, and I love the video too, and fuck you all for judging me.
Christina Aguilera with “Ain’t No Other Man”. I dare you to forget this song.

This is the amazing video for The Mountain Goats song “This Year”, which is a song that has changed lives. Watch it.
Two songs intended to be sarcastic but were instead hits
(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)
The Beastie Boys made this song as a fuck you to all the people that expected them to make dumb frat rock since they were three white boys in a band together, and also to mock the kids that showed up at their shows acting like morons. Also it’s one of the most overly parenthetical song titles ever.
Robert Smith wrote this incredibly happy song in 1992 as a response to all the people who thought that The Cure was way too gloomy. Hilariously, the song is even faster than it was intended because Robert Smith forgot to adjust things while recording the song, but it sounded so weird and forced happy that he kept it as it was.
Also, notice how Robert Smith was rocking the puffy kicks and skinny jeans look 17 years ago? Just thought I’d point that out.

And now, I present to you the angriest hip-hop song ever written about nothing. Literally. It’s the Seinfeld of hip-hop songs. Look, here are the lyrics:
I’ve got the power hey yeah heh
I’ve got the power
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh yeah-eah-eah-eah-eah-eah
I’ve got the power
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh yeah-eah-eah-eah-eah-eah
Gettin’ kinda heavyIt’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic (repeat x4)
Like the crack of the whip I snap attack
Front to back in this thing called rap
Dig it like a shovel rhyme devil
On a heavenly level
Bang the bass turn up the treble
Radical mind day and night all the time
Seven to fourteen wise divine
Maniac brainiac winning the game
I’m the lyrical Jesse JamesOh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh yeah-eah-eah-eah-eah-eah
I’ve got the power
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh yeah
Gettin’ kinda heavy
I’ve got the powerIt’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda heavy (repeat x4)
I’ve got the power
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
He’s got the power oh-oh-oh-oh (repeat whole stanza x2)It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic (repeat x4)
It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic (repeat x4)
Quality I possess something I’m fresh
When my voice goes through the rest
Of the microphone that I am holdin’
Copywritten lyrics so they can’t be stolen
If they are snap
Don’t need the police to try to save them
Your voice will seize so please stay off my back
Or I will attack and you don’t want thatI’ve got the power
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
He’s gonna break my heart
He’s gonna break my heart of hearts
He’s got the power oh-oh-oh-oh (repeat whole stanza x2)I’ve got the power
That’s right, ladies and gents, it’s Snap with “The Power”
Videos of my life… or get up, stand up, be a soul commander
I just found this band last year, courtesy of Kumail, (who always reminds me that he heard of them first), and they pack every ounce of insane over-the-topness from Ohio into three minutes and thirty five seconds.
